Abstract

The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into foreign language education has garnered significant attention, yet existing research remains disproportionately focused on foundational skills such as vocabulary and grammar, neglecting the complexities inherent in high-stakes test preparation like IELTS. This paper analyzes differentiated impacts of AI on four language skill modules (listening/speaking vs. reading/writing), revealing stark disparities in technological efficacy. Through comparative evaluation of platforms like Duolingo, Liulishuo, and New Oriental IELTS Pro, findings indicate AI achieves significant improvements in adaptive learning but falters in test simulations due to scoring inaccuracies and cultural biases. Notably, misalignment of AI with human-evaluated IELTS essays reaches 28%. Root causes include dataset limitations and over-reliance risks. To bridge this gap, the paper proposes a tripartite framework, with hybrid human-AI assessment models to reduce bias, culturally inclusive training datasets for test validity, and ethical guidelines for proficiency evaluations, aiming to harmonize AI innovation with pedagogical authenticity in language education.
