Abstract

This study examines the determinants of fisheries production as a strategic driver of the Blue Economy in Indonesia. The research question focuses on which economic, environmental, and structural factors significantly influence fisheries production at the provincial level. The novelty of this study lies in the use of provincial panel data by simultaneously incorporating economic, infrastructure, and climate variables. The dataset covers 34 provinces in Indonesia during the period 2011–2022, analyzed using the Fixed Effect Model. The results show that electricity consumption and rainfall have a significant positive effect on fisheries production, while fish prices have a significant negative effect. Meanwhile, exports, gross fixed capital formation, wind speed, and technology are not statistically significant within the study period. These findings highlight the importance of reliable energy infrastructure, price stability, and adaptation to climate factors in ensuring the sustainability of fisheries production. The study concludes that strengthening these three aspects is a strategic step to unlock the potential of the fisheries sector as a new source of economic growth within the Blue Economy framework. The implications contribute to policy formulation in sustainable marine and fisheries development, while enriching the academic literature on the blue economy in developing countries.
