Abstract

The Jiaocheng Fault is a basin controlling fault on the western boundary of the Taiyuan Basin, which is an active fault in the Holocene. The fault is divided into the Nitun section, Shanglan North section, Chaicun section, Fengshenghe section, Ximing section, Yeyu section, Qingxu section, Wenshui section, and Shentanggou section. Firstly, shallow seismic exploration was conducted to identify the location of F4–2 and its upper breakpoint in the Fengsheng River branch of the Jiaocheng Fault. Then, drilling joint profiles were used to confirm that F4–2 passed between ZK3 and ZK2. Combined with the results of sample photoluminescence dating conducted at the Shandong Earthquake Engineering Research Institute, the buried depth of the breakpoint on F4–2 in the Fengsheng River branch of the Jiaocheng Fault was determined to be 17 m, and four seismic activity events, E1, E2, E3, and E4, were identified. The activity capacity of the Late Pleistocene fault was significantly weaker than that of the Middle Pleistocene, with the latest active period being the mid Late Pleistocene and a fault activity rate of 0.09mm/a in the mid Late Pleistocene.
