Abstract

This study examines the impact of the Geotagged Facial Recognition Attendance System on schools in Jammu and Kashmir’s Department of School Education. Using a mixed-method approach, attendance data collected from 383 employees was analyzed alongside qualitative surveys. Results show improved punctuality and transparency but reveal issues like face misidentification, location errors, network problems, and privacy concerns. To improve reliability, AI algorithms should be enhanced, geofencing refined, and alternative verification methods like PIN, RFID or OTP-based authentication introduced. Addressing employee concerns requires feedback, privacy assurances, and training. Policies should include grace periods, manual verification, and approval from Heads of Institutions. Strengthening network infrastructure and continuous monitoring will optimize system efficiency.
