Abstract

The Borehole Magnetometry (BM) test is a promising geophysical method that leverages the ferromagnetic properties of materials, which generate induced and/or remanent magnetic flux, significantly distorting the Earth’s magnetic field in localized regions. Researchers have developed analytical and computational techniques to estimate pile depth based on the induced magnetization hypothesis. This study aims to assess the reinforcement depth of a root pile foundation within a pile group using data from a BM test conducted in Artur Alvim, São Paulo, Brazil. The designed length of the root pile (concrete), 11 m, was confirmed through an on-site foundation design, and the BM test also indicated a reinforcement depth of exactly 11 m. While the methodology presented in this study proved to be accurate for this specific case, an alternative analysis was conducted, highlighting the importance of an integrated approach that combines qualitative methods with in situ tests, such as the Parallel Seismic (PS) test.
