Abstract

Traditionally applied medicinal plants are of great importance, and the trend of using these medicinal plants is increasingly important in the world due to their fewer side effects. Madhumeha Nivarana Churnam is an indigenous ayurvedic formulation is focused on this research study to establish the claimed hypoglycemic and hypolipidemic activities manufactured by Anjaneya herbals. This formulation is prepared with several medicinal herbs consisting of Andrographis serpyllifolia, Tinospora cordifolia, Trigonella foenun graecum, Withania somnifera, Triphala [Emblica officinalis, Terminalia bellirica and Terminalia chebula], Aloe barbadensis miller for the treatment of hyperglycemia and hypolipidemia. No documented scientific research is reported; hence a sincere attempt is initiated to take up a research study on this formulation to demonstrate the justification of possible biological effect of this formulation. Alloxan induced diabetic rats of either sex was selected for the study to evaluate the hypoglycemic, and hypolipidemic activities and serum insulin levels were also estimated by using the standard RIA method. The histopathological studies of diabetic rat pancreas were determined. Further Molecular docking investigations of important Madhumeha Nivarana Churnam components by using Autodock software could also support the findings against a novel antidiabetic target, PTP1B (protein tyrosine Phosphatase-1B).
