- Abstract
Self-acceptance is a fundamental aspect of psychological well-being, influencing how individuals perceive and relate to themselves. Among Generation Z, who are navigating complex social and digital landscapes, humor has emerged as a common coping mechanism and a way of expressing identity. Given Gen Z's tendency to live online and conduct social interactions through social media, phenomena like memes can be seen as reflections of shifts in humor forms, particularly towards absurdity. Although highly adept at utilizing technology, the emerging challenge for Generation Z is an increased vulnerability to mental health issues. Therefore, this research aims to explore the differences in self-acceptance in relation to humor style among Generation Z. The study employs a quantitative approach with a comparative research design to examine the differences in self-acceptance based on variations in humor style. The study participants are Generation Z individuals born between 1997 and 2012, residing in Jabodetabek. The measurement tools used are the Humor Style Questionnaire and the Unconditional Self-Acceptance Scale. The findings indicated a significant difference in self-acceptance across dimensions of humor styles. The aim of this study is to identify whether there are significant differences in self-acceptance levels based on four humor styles in Generation Z.
