- ABSTRACT
This article focuses on the lexical issues encountered when translating small genres. Smaller genres such as advertising and social media posts pose particular challenges due to their brevity and specificity. The author highlights several key issues, including cultural and contextual mismatches, preservation of tone and style, translation of brand names and slogans, and the need for brevity. These challenges require translators to carefully manage cultural references, use linguistic tools, understand the brand image and condense messages while maintaining clarity. The note concludes by emphasizing the importance of qualified translators who can effectively overcome these lexical obstacles to ensure that the translated text captures the essence and intended meaning of the original subgenre. Translation is a complex art that requires the translator not only to grasp the intricate nuances of a language but also to understand the cultural and contextual aspects of the source text. While translation can be challenging in any genre, small genres present a unique set of lexical problems that require careful thought and expertise. Small genres are characterized by their brevity and specificity and include forms such as advertisements, slogans, headlines, social media posts, and even poetry etc. These genres often involve creative and playful use of language, which further complicates the translation process. The lexical choices made in these texts are critical to conveying the intended message, tone, and impact to the target audience.
