Abstract

Coastal governance in Indonesia has become a critical area of study due to the country’s vast archipelagic geography, ecological vulnerability, and socio-economic dependence on marine resources. While research on this topic has grown steadily, there has been limited systematic mapping of its scholarly development. This study employed a bibliometric analysis using the Scopus database, covering the timespan 1992–2025. The search query combined terms related to coastal governance, management, and fisheries with the keyword “Indonesia.” Data were analyzed with Biblioshiny to map publication trends, sources, authorship patterns, and keyword co-occurrence networks. A total of 159 journal articles were identified across 98 sources, with an annual growth rate of 10.74%. Research output increased significantly after 2019, reflecting growing international and national interest in sustainability and marine governance. Keyword analysis revealed two dominant clusters: global frameworks such as sustainability and integrated coastal management, and localized themes including Indonesia, fisheries, and climate change. Central authors and sources were identified, showing both international collaborations and local scholarly contributions. The findings indicate that Indonesian coastal governance research has evolved from ecological and technical concerns to more interdisciplinary approaches integrating social, cultural, and policy dimensions. However, gaps remain in regional coverage, community participation, and the integration of traditional ecological knowledge. Future research should adopt inclusive, multi-level governance frameworks that bridge ecological, socio-economic, and political perspectives. This study contributes to advancing both theoretical debates and practical policymaking in coastal governance, positioning Indonesia as a key reference for archipelagic sustainability.
