Abstract

This study aims to conduct a Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) of the YouTube content series ‘Chronicles’ hosted by Bagus Muljadi. The focus of the analysis is on how science communication based on local wisdom is constructed and represented in the discourse of these videos. Using Theo Van Leeuwen’s CDA framework, this study will examine the representation of social actors, processes, and modalities in the discourse presented, with the aim of revealing the ideology, power, and social representations underlying this science communication. Digital communication has shaped new patterns of social interaction. Social media such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram allow individuals to interact in real-time and express themselves in various forms, such as text, images, and videos. This also poses challenges in information management and communication ethics, because with freedom of expression, the information disseminated is not always true or accurate. In this case, communication science needs to pay attention to ethics and information quality so as not to cause misinformation or disinformation that can harm society (Denis, 2020). In the Indonesian context, where local wisdom often clashes with the dominance of Western science, this analysis is crucial to understanding how alternative narratives are constructed to integrate these two domains of knowledge. The ‘Chronicles’ series was chosen because it explicitly raises these issues, offering a platform for in-depth discussion on the history of science, traditional knowledge, and its relevance in the modern era.
