Abstract

As a valuable cultural heritage, traditional villages embody rich historical and cultural information as well as ecological wisdom. In the process of modern societal development, traditional villages face many severe challenges including aging buildings, functional deficits, ecological destruction, and barriers to cultural transmission. This study focuses on architectural design strategies for traditional villages under the concept of ecological design, thoroughly analyzes cases of ecological design in traditional village architecture, and summarizes existing successful examples. Through case analysis, the following strategies are proposed: (1) rational planning of building layout and space, with a priority on using local and sustainable building materials; (2) enhancing energy use and energy-saving measures; (3) scientifically managing and efficiently utilizing water resources; (4) emphasizing cultural protection and transmission; aiming to provide theoretical and practical design concepts and strategies for achieving a harmonious coexistence and sustainable development of natural and cultural ecologies in traditional villages.
