Assessment of Raw Water Availability Post Rehabilitation of the Krueng Aceh Rubber Dam for Urban Water Supply in Banda Aceh, Indonesia

Abstract

Perumdam Tirta Daroy, the primary water utility in Banda Aceh as the main provider of clean water, faces challenges in ensuring aduquate raw water supply due to structural damage to Krueng Aceh Rubber Dam, which reduce storage capacity and affected service reability. This study evaluates raw water availability following dam rehabilitation, analyzes current and future clean water demand, identifies service areas with surplus or deficit, and projects demand over the next 21 years, Secondary data on customer water consumption, population growth, and water level records from relevant agencies were analyzed. The findings indicate that post-rehabilitation in 2025, water discharge increased significantly, with the highest recorded volume in Lamprik TNA (393,926 m3 in March), while Deah Baro showed the lowest flow 8,950 m3). The rise in water level of up to 1.90 m improved supply stability. Projections suggest clean water demand will grow from 312.84 L/s in 2025 to 759.08 L/s by 2046, with Kuta Alam, Meuraxa, and Jaya Baru sub-districts expected to experience the highest demand. Overall, the rehabilitation of the Krueng Aceh Rubber Dam positively impacts raw water availability: however, equitable distribution across services areas remains a key challenge.
