Abstract

The development of electric vehicles (EVs) is one of the main strategies in supporting sustainable and low-emission transportation. However, the EV adoption rate at the local level still faces constraints, especially related to operational costs and charging infrastructure. This study aims to analyze people’s preferences for electric vehicles and the factors that affect their election in Baiturrahman District, Banda Aceh City. Data were obtained from 73 respondents through a structured survey with the Revealed Preference (RP) and Stated Preference (SP) approaches. The analysis was performed using binary logistic regression (MLE) and Bayesian logistic regression (MCMC) to strengthen the validity of the results. The estimated results showed that the variables of operating costs (X9) and access to charging infrastructure (X3) had a significant effect on the probability of respondents choosing EVs. The binary logit model has good predictive performance with an AUROC value of 0.803, while Bayesian results confirm operational costs as the main determinant of EV adoption. These findings indicate that strategies to reduce operational costs through economic incentives, as well as accelerate the development of charging infrastructure, are key steps in encouraging people’s transition to electric vehicles. Thus, this study provides important implications for the formulation of sustainable transportation policies in Indonesia’s urban areas.
