- Abstract
This study aims to explore the role and presence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) equipped with Natural Language Processing (NLP), Large Language Models (LLM), and Machine Learning (ML) from the perspective of symbolic interactionism theory, particularly through the concepts of self, mind, and society. The objective is to understand how AI gradually replaces human roles and redefines social interactions in the digital age. Using a descriptive qualitative approach based on a literature review, the research collects data from books, journals, and relevant media sources, analyzed through data condensation, presentation, and triangulation. The findings reveal that AI possesses functional characteristics similar to human interaction, allowing it to operate as a social entity within digital society. AI’s ability to process language, learn autonomously, and adapt its responses enables it to assume roles traditionally held by humans. However, this technological shift also presents ethical and societal challenges such as the erosion of human interaction, privacy risks, and increased digital dependency. The study concludes that while AI enriches modern communication and societal structures, its integration requires careful consideration. Further research is recommended to assess AI’s long-term social implications and guide its ethical application.
