Abstract

This research aims to determine the level of efficiency and factors that influence technical efficiency in highland carrot farming in Batu, East Java and to analyze the influence of land slope and conservation systems on technical efficiency. This research uses a stochastic frontier model with a Cobb Douglas frontier production function model with the Maximum Likelihood Estimation (MLE) technique. Based on the analysis, it shows that the factors that influence carrot farming production, namely land area, seeds, use of chemical and organic fertilizers, solid pesticides and labor, have a significant effect on carrot production with a real level of 5 percent. Then the technical efficiency analysis shows that the average technical efficiency value is 0.506. This value shows that 50.6 percent of carrot farmers are quite efficient. This also means that 50.6 percent of carrot farmers achieve production of 50.6 percent of the potential production obtained from the combination of production factors sacrificed by farmers. Meanwhile, factors that influence technical efficiency are the length of education and the farmer’s decision to carry out conservation.
