- Abstract
This research analyses the transformation of private landscapes in the United States and China, tracing their evolution from grand estates and gardens to smaller, more urban forms in the 20th century. While the United States embraced lawn culture as a means of asserting control over nature, China considered the rise of micro gardens as an extension of traditional values emphasizing harmony and shelter. By analyzing these changes, this study reveals the underlying social, cultural, and political dynamics shaping these landscapes and their significance in the context of global urbanization and modernization.
