- Abstract
After the reform and opening up of China, the rapid economic development of China has fostered the cultural transmission between Mainland China and Hong Kong. In recent years, social media has played a vital role in spreading the Hong Kong culture to Mainland China, potentially letting people in Mainland China form a basic understanding of Hong Kong culture. This motivates people to develop a variety of views and thoughts based on their level of preferences towards Hong Kong culture. This research will be based on an international high school in Shanghai, China, and will find out the thoughts of the students towards Hong Kong culture and their preferences. According to the results of the research, a large proportion of the students in the investigated high school already have a basic understanding and be familiar with the Hong Kong culture through online social media. Based on the results of the research, these students have a strong interest and a high level of preference towards Hong Kong culture. To conclude this research, Hong Kong culture has not been forgotten by students in the investigated high school. While these students showed a deep and unwavering conviction of the self-cultural identity, they also remain open-minded towards Hong Kong culture.
