Abstract

The Chinese philosophy presents a distinctive and valuable alternative to the traditional Western notion of philosophy, which often emphasizes deductive reasoning and specific methodological criteria. By examining the use of non-deductive argumentation in Chinese philosophy, such as paradoxes, analogies, and examples, this essay demonstrates how these rhetorical techniques offer unique insights into complex philosophical concepts, thereby challenging conventional Western approaches. Furthermore, it addresses the historical and cultural biases that have led some Western philosophers to dismiss or undervalue non-Western philosophical traditions. By critically analyzing the contributions of both Chinese and Western philosophies, this paper argues for a more inclusive definition of philosophy that embraces the plurality of cultural perspectives and methodologies. Through an exploration of key philosophical texts and principles, this research also demonstrates that Chinese philosophy challenges the Eurocentric definitions of philosophy and enriches the broader philosophical discourse.
