- Abstract
Indoor illuminance is a fundamental consideration in building design and is directly influenced by factors such as location, climate, building form, orientation, and material selection. In regions with high solar exposure, the design of the building envelope, particularly the integration of effective shading devices, is critical. Telangana, situated in the tropical savanna (Aw) zone, necessitates solutions that mitigate solar heat gain and glare while ensuring adequate illuminance. The configuration and geometry of shading devices play pivotal roles in modulating indoor illuminance levels. This study systematically evaluates the indoor illuminance of distinct fixed external shading configurations for a prototype office room in Kokapet, Telangana, using BIM modelling and illuminance simulation. The size parameters were optimised based on solar angles to reflect the local climatic conditions. This study identifies the most effective shading strategies for Kokapet region, supporting the development of climate-shading devices that enhance indoor environmental quality and energy efficiency.
