Abstract

The world is changing to adapt to the rising population and expanding cities. Networks of connected roads prioritized the working force in the urban areas, causing a decline in nature play spaces. This led to an effect on mental health and behavioural problems in younger children (0-5 years old), the elderly and their caregivers. This indicates the risk associated with the equitable distribution of resources affecting urban sustainability until developing cities fulfil the needs of Infants, Toddlers, and Caregivers (ITCs). This study aims to explore the varied dimensions, limitations and inclusivity present in the current child-friendly frameworks that address the needs of spatial planning for infants, toddlers and caregivers (ITCs). To understand this, a literature study was conducted from Google Scholar, Web of Science and Scopus. The contribution to this study is threefold: first, to understand current trends in frameworks for evaluating a spatial framework for ITCs. Second, to understand the limitations and the possible opportunities for inclusion. Third, to identify the inclusiveness of existing child-friendly frameworks for urban sustainability. However, the frameworks mentioned in literature fail to address age-specific requirements for children and lack empirical evidence to capture the concerns of caregivers of infants and toddlers. This highlights the need for refinement during the implementation of child-oriented projects. The current research focuses on the requirement of regional-specific frameworks for ITCs.
