- Abstract
The selection of dialysis modalities for patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) complicated by diabetes mellitus is a critical issue globally. We attempt to analyze the distinct benefits of peritoneal dialysis (PD) and hemodialysis (HD) in treating ESRD patients with diabetes from perspectives such as survival benefits, metabolism, dialysis access maintenance, and social and medical accessibility. The differences in short-term and long-term benefits between the two are not significant. These patients can achieve optimal clinical benefits through comprehensive management (involving coordinated care strategies), personalized blood glucose control (requiring tailored regimens), and residual renal function protection strategies.
