Abstract

Void ratio is a key factor influencing the mechanical properties, crack resistance, and durability of cement-stabilised mixtures. To investigate the influence of various factors on the porosity of cement-stabilised base course mixtures, tests were conducted on the porosity of cement-stabilised mixtures under five conditions: gradation type, cement dosage, powder content, sulphate content, and curing humidity. The results indicate that, among the various factors, the degree of influence on the void ratio of water-stabilised mixtures, from greatest to least, is as follows: gradation type > powder content > cement dosage. Meanwhile, sulphate content and curing conditions have a relatively minor impact on the void ratio of water-stabilised mixtures. In arid regions with large temperature differences, in order to prevent arching, cracking, and deformation of the water-stabilised base layer, the void ratio of the water-stabilised base layer mixture should be controlled between 11.5% and 13.5%, the cement dosage should be controlled below 4%, and the powder content should be controlled below 1.5%.
