Abstract

This paper explores the application and effectiveness of an AI-empowered formative assessment mechanism in college English education. It examines the theoretical foundations of formative assessment and AI applications, emphasizing the integration of constructivist learning theory and data-driven decision-making. A comprehensive literature review highlights global research trends and technological advancements in AI-based educational assessment. The study analyzes experimental data from student self-assessments, teacher interviews, and performance evaluations over two semesters, demonstrating significant improvements in learning outcomes, teaching efficiency, and classroom interaction. Key challenges such as technical infrastructure, teacher training, data privacy, and interdisciplinary collaboration are identified. Recommendations for optimizing AI-powered assessment include enhancing technical infrastructure, strengthening teacher training, improving data protection, and promoting cross-disciplinary collaboration. The findings provide valuable insights for developing sustainable AI-integrated formative assessment systems in higher education.
