Abstract

Conventional self-report instruments are susceptible to social desirability bias and response distortion, limiting their validity for assessing teacher professional competencies. The Situational Judgment Test (SJT) addresses this limitation by embedding respondents in work-relevant scenarios to elicit behavioral tendencies. The present study developed and preliminarily validated a Preschool Teacher Digital Literacy SJT grounded in China’s Digital literacy of teachers (JY/T 0646—2022). A total of 405 valid responses were obtained from preschool teachers across four provinces. A theory-driven CFA approach revealed that two dimensions—digital technology knowledge and skills (D2) and digital social responsibility (D4)—were not effectively operationalized through SJT scenarios. The final three-dimensional model retaining digital awareness (D1), digital application (D3), and professional development (D5) yielded acceptable fit (χ2(167) = 270.055, CFI = 0.948, Robust RMSEA = 0.039, SRMR = 0.059) with Cronbach’s α = 0.721. Content validity was supported by Delphi consultation (Kendall’s W = 0.366). These findings provide preliminary evidence of the promise and boundaries of SJT-based measurement of preschool teacher digital literacy.
