Abstract

The development of the industrial revolution and information technology has changed the outlook of the global economy with a paradigm shift from traditional economic practices towards broader digitalization. As one of the drivers of the Indonesian economy, the tourism sector is also affected by the impact of digital transformation. As part of Indonesia, West Sumatra has great potential to attract tourists as it is rich in natural and cultural resources. However, the level of utilization of digital platforms in travel planning is still low. Therefore, businesses need to identify the digital literacy factors that influence tourists’ choice of destination. This study aims to explore the factors that influence digital literacy in the tourism sector in West Sumatra. The questionnaire was distributed to 300 respondents who had visited West Sumatra, with a response rate of 83%. Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) was conducted using SPSS version 24.0 for Windows. Validity and reliability tests were performed using Cronbach’s Alpha. The results showed that digital literacy among tourists in West Sumatra was influenced by three main factors: digital literacy competence, digital creativity and interaction, and digital communication skills. These factors are essential for destination owners to consider when formulating their strategic plans to increase its competitive levels and attract more visitors.
