Abstract

The transition from a college graduate to an industry professional is often hindered by a gap between academic focus and the specific skills sought by employers. Multiple attributes characterize a student as being industry-ready often much beyond the knowledge imparted by the curriculum. The attributes of industry readiness are elaborated in this paper. The paper further proposes a system derived from the classical Computer Adaptive Testing approach to identify and bridge specific attributes in students targeting a job role and a domain. This system is personalized to a student and is administered before the student graduates from college. The premise here is that every student will have unique gaps concerning industry readiness and these gaps need to be identified and bridged during their college program at a personalized level. Artificial Intelligence is used extensively to realize and implement the system. Generative AI and AI recommender systems are two exciting areas of AI with the potential to revolutionize education which is profoundly utilized in this system. By analyzing industry needs and graduate skillsets, the proposed system can identify areas for targeted development and recommend corrective action to bridge the gaps.
