- Abstract
This study designed, developed, and assessed a digital interactive animation app to augment antenatal education in an emerging economy. The main aims of the study were to enhance the dissemination of maternal health information and user engagement among expectant mothers. Using a sequential-exploratory, mixed-method approach, data were gathered using both qualitative and quantitative methods. The design and development of the interactive instructional design adhered to the Design Science Research Process Model (DSRPM) and the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) frameworks. The System Usability Scale (SUS) was used to assess the app’s usability with 30 expectant mothers, whereas two professionals participated in semi-structured interviews to offer detailed insights. Usability, perceived usefulness and contextual appropriateness were all considered in the data analysis. With a SUS 79.0, the digital animation application demonstrated good usability. The findings emphasize the potential of interactive digital animation as an effective tool for antenatal education.
