Abstract

This paper discusses the transformational possibilities of AI art to influence communication pedagogy in through survey based methodological study in Edo State of Nigeria. With the rise in the application of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in learning, their ability to boost the creative and communicative learning competencies among learners is of interest. The 300 students and 50 educators in three tertiary institutions in Edo State were given a structured questionnaire to gauge opinions, experiences and challenges related to inclusion of AI-generated art in communication curricula. The results indicate that AI-created artworks greatly increase the participation of students, develop their creativity in visual and multimodal communication, and critical thinking towards digital media. Teachers found the AI tools to support dynamic instruction, but there were many questions about access to technology, privacy and safety concerns (e.g., authorship, authenticity), and poor digital infrastructure. The study ends in concluding that the AI-generated art can have immense potential of transforming the pedagogy of communication by enhancing creativity and equipping students with experiences of digital communication contexts. Some of the recommendations are the improvement of technological infrastructure, the training of educators, and instilling ethics in the use of AI. This study provides numerous research enlightenments that can be significant towards designing curriculum and implementing AI-driven technology in higher learning.
