Abstract

Reinforced concrete hollow columns are often used as structures with high stability requirements such as piers and large frame columns due to their light weight and relatively large cross-section. When the structure is subjected to lateral impact, it is more likely to be damaged. To investigate the influence of different parameters on the dynamic mechanical properties of reinforced concrete hollow columns, a finite element numerical model was constructed using LS-DYNA software. After reliability verification through experiments, impact models were simulated for different contact areas, hollow section shapes, and axial compression ratios, and the mechanical response of reinforced concrete hollow columns under various parameters were analyzed. The results show that for a constant impact mass, increasing the impact contact area can reduce stress concentration and enhance lateral displacement, thereby dissipating impact energy. Damage to regular octagonal and circular hollow members is evenly dispersed, and the force distribution is reasonable, which helps reduce damage to members under impact load. The axial compression ratio of reinforced concrete hollow columns is within the range of 0 ~ 0.6, and they have good impact resistance performance.
