- Abstract
With the technological advancement in image processing like color photography, matching and inspection and survey of the images, large scale issues on counterfeit currencies have been occurring. This work focuses on automatic paper currency recognition especially in banking systems, foreign exchange systems and other currency field jobs. This system also helps in denomination extraction. A proper extraction of the characteristics on the image of the currency is performed and is contrasted with the detailed characteristics of the genuine currency image. Gradient Magnitude in the Sobel Operator is used for the extraction of the features. Several image processing techniques like image edge detection, characteristic extraction are performed. Finally, the differentiation of the results are performed. This system helps in identification and separation of the currencies of various regions. We use Indian Currency as well as some foreign currencies for characteristic extraction like Color, Shape information, Pattern, Value etc.
