- Abstract
Large public places such as classrooms, libraries, and auditoriums consume a significant amount of energy due to the manual turning on/off of electrical appliances that normally include fans and lights. This paper provides an automation approach for the problem mentioned above by using live CCTV footage to detect human presence. The system, by using advanced image pro-cessing techniques, analyzes video streams in real time to determine occupancy and control electrical appliances accordingly. Apart from energy conservation, there are many other benefits such as cost-effective operating costs, elongated appliance life due to optimum utilization, and increased user convenience. The method has an important advantageous combination of IoT and image processing. This eliminates some of the drawbacks seen on the conventional systems, such as IR blasters, that may be unintentionally activated by non-human objects, thus leading to unnecessary operations. This project develops the idea that IoT and image processing allow for the possibility of attaining intelligent and sustainable energy management by eliminating inefficient methods used in previous conventional methods.
