Abstract

This research aims to find out how to realize inclusive education for children with disabilities in Southwest Papua. To achieve this aim, this research uses qualitative methods and a case study approach to explore in-depth information about the condition of education in the area. Primary data was obtained through direct observation in the field and interviews with various informants, including teachers, students and parents of students with disabilities. Meanwhile, secondary data was drawn from official documents, previous research reports and policies relevant to inclusive education. The theory used in this study is according to Bhat (2000) which discusses individual behavior in choosing alternatives and their impact on social welfare, with an emphasis on aspects of safety, convenience, comfort and aesthetics. The results show that the main challenges faced in inclusive education in this area cover various aspects. One of them is inadequate infrastructure; many schools do not have disability-friendly facilities, such as adequate accessibility of classrooms, toilets and entryways. This makes it difficult for children with disabilities to actively participate in the teaching and learning process.
