- Abstract
The application of a fish Cool box using an outdoor split AC and the cooling materials are R22 and R290 refrigerants is one way to overcome the problems of fishermen selling fish in an effort to preserve the fish they sell, where so far the preservation method used is still using ice blocks or bulk ice. The two refrigerants used have different abilities in absorbing the heat load on fish due to the characteristics of each substance. The results of the study showed that the amount of heat load absorbed for refrigerants R22 and R290 was the same, namely 516.8 kJ, but the rate of heat transfer per unit time for R22 was 0.044 kW while R290 was 0.15 kW. The time needed to reach the cool box temperature between 50C and -20C for R22 was 3 h 24 min while R290 was 1 h 37 min. These results indicate that the use of R290 refrigerant is more efficient in terms of time and electricity consumption.
