- Abstract
Bali’s architectural identity is closely linked to volcanic tuff stone (batu padas), valued for its lightweight, carvability, and cultural symbolism. However, extensive quarrying in Gianyar has generated large amounts of waste, causing severe environmental impacts such as riverbank erosion, irrigation system collapse, and reduced agricultural productivity. Previous initiatives attempted to reuse volcanic tuff waste, but limited knowledge of appropriate mixture compositions has hindered optimization. This study aims to recycle volcanic tuff waste into sustainable wall panels that retain the aesthetic and textural qualities of traditional Balinese architecture while addressing ecological concerns. Building on earlier research that produced artificial tuff blocks prone to cracking, this study explores improved material formulations by comparing mixture compositions and evaluating physical as well as visual performance. The novelty lies in integrating material innovation with applications in green architecture and tourism infrastructure. The findings are expected to contribute to sustainable construction practices, waste management solutions, and the preservation of Bali’s cultural identity in modern architectural development.
