Abstract

Tourism villages have become strategic assets in promoting sustainable tourism, as they combine cultural preservation with economic development. However, one critical challenge faced by many tourism villages, including those in Banyuwangi, is the limited communicative competence of local human resources in serving international visitors. This linguistic gap not only reduces the quality of service delivery but also diminishes the potential for authentic cultural exchange and long-term visitor satisfaction. Previous studies on English training for rural tourism communities have generally emphasized vocabulary acquisition and functional expressions, yet they often fail to integrate contextual elements such as local traditions, culinary heritage, and hospitality norms. This research identifies that gap and positions contextual English training as a key solution to empower local stakeholders. This study adopts a qualitative case study approach, which is suitable for capturing in-depth insights from interviews, observations, and documentation of village tourism practices. This method ensures that the training model developed is not only linguistically functional but also culturally relevant.
