Abstract

Mastering English through classroom learning in Indonesia faces numerous obstacles, with foreign language anxiety being a significant barrier. This study investigates the impact of integrating Wordwall on English language anxiety among Indonesian higher education students. Using a One Group Pretest-Posttest design, 60 students from the State Christian Institute of Palangka Raya participated in the study. The Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale (FLCAS) was employed to measure anxiety levels before and after implementing Wordwall in English courses. Quantitative data analysis revealed a statistically significant decrease in overall anxiety levels post-intervention. However, some aspects of language anxiety persisted, particularly in speaking and communication apprehension. The interviews with seven students provided deeper insights into their experiences with Wordwall and lingering anxiety factors. The findings showed that while Wordwall can effectively reduce certain aspects of language anxiety, it should be integrated with other strategies, particularly those targeting speaking skills, for comprehensive anxiety reduction. This study contributes to the growing body of research on technology-enhanced language learning and provides practical implications for educators seeking to mitigate foreign language anxiety in higher education settings, emphasizing the need for a multifaceted approach to anxiety reduction in language learning.
