- Abstract
The existence of women in church ministry often experiences gender equality issues because the local Sentani culture still influences it. There are still congregations that maintain patriarchal views and place women in a lower position than men. The research aims to examine gender inclusion in Sentani culture based on a pastoral perspective. The research was conducted with descriptive qualitative approach through interviews and participatory observation methods. These studies highlight the need for the integration between local culture and gender equality through education, community empowerment, and the need to shift attitudes of people toward gender mainstreaming in Sentani. As a catalyst for inclusive social change, the church has a vital role to play. Therefore, pastoral strategies including gender education, gender empowerment, and gender advocacy in the church must be implemented as part of a way to build a just and equitable society in Sentani.
