Abstract

The relationship between the Muslim and Hindu communities in India has not been harmonious for the past three centuries. The Muslim community in India has been the target of violence by Hindu groups, especially nationalist groups. Violence increased when the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) was enacted in 2019. This research to reveal how structural violence has occurred against Muslim groups in India after the enactment of the citizenship law. The researcher used a qualitative approach based on in-depth interviews. The CAA has led to acts of violence and discrimination in various aspects such as economics, politics and social aspects against Muslim groups in India. The government has not provided a way out to stop this violence, even on several occasions the Indian national government has supported this violence. The Indian national government also uses Hinduism as a form of justification for the ongoing violence against Muslim groups. This violence is projected to continue to occur and develop and it is possible that it will require intervention from the state or external groups to deal with communal conflicts between Muslim and Hindu nationalist groups.
