Abstract

This study aims to develop and describe a contextual Scratch-based coding learning model that is relevant to the characteristics of Generation Alpha in elementary schools. The research employs a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the Hannafin and Peck model, which consists of needs analysis, design, and development and implementation stages. A mixed-methods approach was also applied through observations, interviews, documentation, and questionnaires. The research subjects included fourth- and fifth-grade students and teachers at the Laboratory Elementary School of Universitas Negeri Malang in Blitar. The findings indicate that the Scratch-based coding learning model enhances student engagement, digital creativity, and computational thinking skills. “The developed model was proven valid (87.5%), practical (88%), and effective, as indicated by a significant improvement in student learning outcomes (pre-test = 62.4, post-test = 84.6, N-gain = 0.59, p < 0.05). These results confirm that Scratch-based coding learning is an adaptive pedagogical approach that not only improves technical skills but also strengthens digital creativity and computational thinking as essential competencies for the 21st century.
