- Abstract
This study investigates how urban design elements are related to teen abilities to navigate independently in Zirakpur District Mohali, Punjab which is rapidly growing town and it is considered as Tricity near Chandigarh. Using a mixed method approach, with survey responses, semi-structured interviews and participatory mapping from 12 adolescents, the study identifies key barriers to independent mobility, including fragmented pedestrian infrastructure, gender-based restrictions and limited public space. Informal gathering areas emerged as critical development spaces, underscoring adolescent’s adaptive strategies. The findings suggest the need for adolescent responsive urban planning that integrates inclusive design and participatory governance.
