Abstract

This paper explores the vital role of education in influencing man and nature interaction through the art of botanical contact printing. With each passing day, the environmental challenges are becoming insurmountable, and the textile industry is one of the most scrutinised industries regarding its ecological footprint. Therefore, there is an urgent requirement to revisit our connection with nature to improve our empathy and resilience. Botanical contact printing uses only natural materials like the leaves and flowers. With conscious material selection, this avenue offers a much more promising alternative. This study is about how the educational institutions can effectively use botanical contact printing in equipping students with the essential skills and knowledge for a more sustainable and environmentally conscious design structure. It identifies few constructs that can improve innovation and empathy for sustainability. The study finds out that implementing botanical contact printing into design education curricula not only promotes nature awareness but also cultivates the sense of empathy and shared responsibility. The institutions can bring meaningful change within the industry by exploring different ways to encourage students to act and engage creatively with nature. Together we can contribute to a more resilient and ecologically responsible society.
