Abstract

The proposed system presents an automated vehicle detection and identification system using Arduino UNO microcontroller, infrared (IR) sensors, and an RFID reader. With traffic congestion projected to increase by 50% over the next decade, efficient management solutions are essential. This system employs IR sensors that detect vehicle proximity by emitting and receiving infrared radiation, achieving detection accuracy rates of over 95%. Additionally, the RFID reader identifies vehicles through passive RFID tags using electromagnetic induction, which can read tags within a range of up to 10 cm with an accuracy of 99%. This low-cost solution facilitates real-time vehicle detection and identification, significantly reducing manual intervention and processing time. It is particularly suited for applications such as automated parking management, where studies indicate that computerized systems can reduce entry and exit times by up to 30%. The architecture is scalable and customizable, making it adaptable to various smart transportation scenarios, including toll collection and access control, addressing the growing need for enhanced urban mobility solutions.
