Abstract

The research entitled “Deconstruction of the Aesthetics of Shadow Puppets Performing Arts Presented By Enthus Susmono” focused on three things, that are, the causes of the aesthetic deconstruction of the wayang kulit show in the Enthus Susmono performance, the process of deconstructing the aesthetics of the wayang kulit performance in Enthus Susmono, and the implications of the deconstruction of the aesthetics of the wayang kulit performance on sustainability of the present art of wayang kulit performance. The purpose of this study is to clearly know about the causes, processes, and implications of the deconstructing the aesthetics of wayang kulit performance art in Enthus Susmono’s performance. This study uses Derrida’s theory of deconstruction as the main theory, and as a supporting theory uses Jakob Sumardjo’s paradox aesthetic theory, as well as Sunardi’s nuksma and mungguh aesthetics. The method used is a qualitative research method and interpretative data analysis techniques. The data source uses two data sources, namely primary and secondary sources. Based on the research that has been done, three conclusions can be formulated. First, the reason for the deconstruction of the aesthetics of the wayang kulit performance presented by Enthus Susmono is a rereading of the wayang kulit as a cultural product (cultural text) caused by two phenomena, that are shifts in ideology and the social system of society, and changes in the boundaries of the standard of the wayang kulit performing arts. Second, the process of deconstructing the aesthetics of the wayang kulit performance in Enthus Susmono’s performances are traces that occur in deconstruction whose clarity can be known and understood through two processes, namely, the presence of wayang kulit performance from sacred to profane, and Enthus Susmono’s creativity. Third, the deconstruction of the aesthetics of the art of wayang kulit performances in Enthus Susmono’s performances has three implications, namely, the presence of wayang kulit performances by Enthus Susmono provides a new reference for young puppeters, with the shadow puppet show presented by Enthus Susmono, millennial young people who were previously unfamiliar with shadow puppets are now beginning to recognize wayang kulit shows, and the economic impact of Enthus Susmono’s creativity provides an alternative income for the Satria Laras musical group and the community in the wayang kulit show industry.
