Abstract

Women sexualities are often portrayed through fictions. Nh. Dini is one of Indonesian women writers where her works often present about women with their complexities and their roles. “Dua Dunia” present the issues of women, roles of women, such as in the family, work, and society. This research article aims to describe the representation of women’s sexuality through female characters in “Dua Dunia” short story collection book, and how they are constructed. This article implemented descriptive qualitative method. The source of data were selected stories in “Dua Dunia” containing women sexualities, while the data were narrations and dialogues. To collect the data, the documentation technique was applied where the series of events, narrations and dialogues contained women sexualities were identified, then analyzed. By applying Beauvoir and Walby’s theories, the authors analysed how the sexuality is constructed. The result showed that in “Dua Dunia”, Nh. Dini, through the female characters showed us that the women sexualities are constructed by patriarchal culture. Women often seen as the second sex, they should follow the value, the norm of how women should be socially and culturally. The resistance of woman against their gender role, patriarchal culture also presented in “Dua Dunia”.
