Abstract

As one of most popular children’s series in Indonesia, Adit Sopo Jarwo has entertained Indonesian children for ten years. The popularity of the series has made some research take it as their object of the research which are mostly related to its educative values. To offer a different perspective in analyzing the series, this research uses feminist point of view to further try to analyze about the gender representation in the series. By taking some episodes labelled in its production house YouTube channel as “best episodes” of the series, this research focuses to observe the proportion of the two genders and how the two genders are represented in the series. The results of the research shows that there is an imbalanced proportion of the two genders which favors male characters to be more represented in the series and have more important roles in the storyline rather than the female characters. Young and adult male characters are portrayed to do more outdoor activities than adult female characters. They are also often portrayed as traditional housewives, or when they work, they represent Indonesian married women who have ‘dual roles’: a housewife and a financial supporter of their family.
