Abstract

This study explores the concept of deep learning from both Islamic and Western educational perspectives using a qualitative literature review approach. Deep learning emphasizes meaningful understanding, critical reflection, and real-world application of knowledge. In Islamic education, it integrates spiritual, moral, and intellectual values rooted in the Qur’an and Hadith, fostering holistic personal development. Meanwhile, Western educational theories highlight 21st-century skills such as critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity, supported by frameworks like Bloom’s Taxonomy and Dewey’s Experiential Learning. The findings suggest that combining spiritual reflection with modern pedagogical strategies can enhance the depth and relevance of learning. However, challenges such as limited teacher training, unequal resource distribution, and inconsistent implementation persist. This study recommends a synthesis of Islamic and Western approaches to promote a more contextual, reflective, and transformative learning experience, cultivating learners who are spiritually grounded, intellectually capable, and adaptable in a rapidly changing world.
