Abstract

Parental involvement plays a crucial role in shaping students’ academic motivation, particularly in fostering extrinsic motivation during early education. This study employs a systematic literature review (SLR) approach, following the PRISMA framework, to synthesize findings from existing research on the impact of parental engagement on elementary school students’ motivation. Data were sourced exclusively from Google Scholar, ensuring a broad yet methodologically rigorous selection process. The results indicate that structured parental involvement, including verbal encouragement, reinforcement strategies, and home-based learning support, significantly enhances student motivation and academic achievement. However, over-reliance on external rewards may hinder the development of self-regulated learning behaviors. The findings align with self-determination theory and expectancy-value theory, highlighting the importance of transitioning from extrinsic to intrinsic motivation over time. While this study provides valuable insights, limitations such as reliance on secondary data and the exclusion of non-English literature should be considered. Future research should explore longitudinal studies and comparative analyses across different educational contexts. These findings offer practical implications for educators, policymakers, and parents in developing effective parental engagement strategies that foster sustainable academic motivation.
