Abstract

This article discusses research that aims to: 1) develop a model design for assessing mathematical reasoning abilities, 2) test the quality of the assessment model, and 3) reveal the profile of students’ reasoning achievements. The assessment model was developed using the Plomp development research method which includes preliminary research, development, and assessment stages. The preliminary research stage includes problem identification and needs analysis activities. At the development stage, produce an assessment model that is suitable for application in model assessment activities. The assessment stage is marked by testing the assessment model in learning activities involving assessment instruments and model syntax. The trial activity involved two model teachers and 58 grade 4 elementary school students in Tegal City. Data was collected through tests, questionnaires and observations. Quantitative data analysis is used to obtain information regarding the quality of assessment instruments and categorization of model implementation and functioning data. The student’s mathematical reasoning ability profile was obtained through analysis of the results of the mathematical reasoning ability test. The research results show that the mathematical reasoning ability assessment model is a procedural model that applies formative assessment in problem-based learning to develop reasoning, as well as analyzing and utilizing assessment results; proven to be practical and effective in collecting evidence for assessing student’ mathematical reasoning ability; and the reasoning ability profile of students from schools with high qualifications is better than students from schools with low qualifications.
