Abstract

Digital payment transformation has become a key driver of Indonesia’s financial inclusion agenda, particularly in peripheral island economies where connectivity and digital literacy remain uneven. This study examines the readiness of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the Bangka Belitung Islands to adopt the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) and its NFC-based contactless feature, QRIS Tap. Using a desk-based synthesis of official data from Bank Indonesia, BPS, Katadata, and provincial sources, the study evaluates three dimensions of readiness, technological and infrastructural conditions, digital and financial literacy, and institutional and policy support, within an integrated TAM–TRI–TOE framework. Results indicate that MSMEs in Bangka Belitung exhibit moderate readiness: QRIS (scan) adoption is extensive, but QRIS Tap implementation remains limited due to uneven access to NFC-enabled devices, connectivity gaps, and emerging feature-specific literacy. Institutional support is strong, driven by Bank Indonesia’s QRIS 2.0 roadmap and local Smart City initiatives, yet localized interventions are needed to translate policy momentum into contactless usage. The study contributes to digital-payment literature by situating MSME readiness within an island-based ecosystem. It highlights the need for ecosystemic coordination, combining policy, technology, and capacity-building, to achieve inclusive digital transformation across Indonesia’s archipelagic regions.
