- Abstract
The rapid advancement of information technology, the establishment of digital government has emerged as a pivotal pathway for modernizing the national governance system and enhancing governance capabilities. This article seeks to examine the impact of China’s digital government initiatives on boosting government transparency and fostering public engagement, while also analyzing their effectiveness and the challenges encountered in practice. Through meticulous analysis, the article uncovers the potential influence of digital government development on both government transparency and public participation. The research reveals that digital government initiatives have significantly elevated government transparency and public engagement by intensifying information disclosure, dismantling data barriers, deepening the scope of public involvement, and enhancing the ease of public participation. Nevertheless, this progression is not without its challenges, including risks related to information security and hurdles in inter-departmental collaboration. In light of these findings, the article puts forth a suite of policy recommendations, such as reinforcing information security measures and refining mechanisms for inter-departmental coordination.
